Dear Ones,
Hi terrestrials. Soul gardeners. The reality of our inheritance is harrowing. Our mistakes heavy af. Somewhere deep there is a heart.
Trouble befalls us all during this fleeting life. Physical, mental, and emotional sickness knocks our species down. I witness unraveling of inner and outer realities. I take notes and these are some of my notes, sapiens.
I notice cycles of death and growth during this experiment we call life on earth. There is obesity of many types of cells: fear, ego, cancer, fat, cruelty, and of course microorganisms. We, healers in the trenches, have not observed anything like this in our lifetime.
Happy news: Human beings are resilient (possibly sad news for other species).
Sad news: Collective poor brain health leads to poor body health and blocks positive growth.
Happy news: A large percentage of our health and healing is in our hands believe it or not. Even mountains change.
Sad news: Society conditioned us to seek external means for self-worth, health, and love. We lost sight of ourselves. We pay a steep price now.
Happy news: Modern-built society is crumbling. Systems rise and fall. Renovation is on the horizon. Future humans connect to their deepest most authentic selves.
When we connect to our nature we connect to nature because we are nature.
It is all so beautiful and tragic.
NATURE IS HEALTH
Health is balance between body, mind, and spirit. Per World Health Organization (WHO), it “is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity." Indigenous cultures view health as a state of balance and interconnectedness with the natural world.
These days, when I step into the hospital for a patient consultation, it is often too late. Sadly. Beyond repair. The world needs earlier healing touchpoints. My eyes tire watching humans of all varieties lack effective tools to deal with stress, anxiety, depression, and pain. Sick system. Sick doctors. Sick patients.
We see all ages and types of humans struggle now. The ones in their 70’s are an interesting group to review. I think to myself: Wait a minute parentals, I thought you were supposed to teach us? We are your children afterall. Ohhhhhhh, now I see that you ARE teaching us. Just not directly. We learn by watching brain sickness and the resultant lack of capacity for growth.
NOT RECOGNIZED BY STEEPLE
Polycrises awaken only some of us at the moment. The rest remain violent, numb and/or engorged. Will the others awaken? Who really knows at this point?
I clean up my side of the street.
Palpable earthly tension is food for the Gods. Nature is my temple. Unconditional love my religion.
“This church of mine may not be recognized by steeple but that doesn't mean that I will walk without a God. I’ve got this burning belief in salvation and love.” -Brandon Flowers from song Playing With Fire
PEN OVER STETHOSCOPE
I prefer my pen to my stethoscope these days. I’ll hang it up soon. Your defibrillating hearts perforate my eardrums.
Can we use fear and despair as fertilizer these days? Or will we succumb and shrink ourselves even more? Is that even possible?
Do you feel the winds of change? I do. You know all about my reverence for Spring.
Goodbye, winter of my discontent (discontent stems from attachments and attachments to attachments). Give up need for control. It occupies us.
Goodbye, days of self-sabotage (what a mean modern society that teaches us to hate ourselves). Be for yourself how you wish others would be for you.
Hello, change. Hello, growth. Hello, something bigger than us. Hello Spring.
MY SCALPEL IS MY BRAIN
My intensive, up close and personal study period of our species, Homo Sapiens, is coming to a close.
Imagine speaking with all walks of people all day long. At work, peopling is unavoidable. Talking is a torment at times. It is necessary to crack mysterious hospital cases. The answer is usually in the patient’s history. Listening is a lost healing art among humans. I need silence so I can hear you and myself. I need silence so I can listen to you and myself.
I protect this precious brain tool of mine with dear life for dear life. It happens to be in service to me and in service to you. In that newly shuffled order.

The flowers I grow grow me. - Me
ODE TO MY BRAIN
*NESSA TIP* Modern humans benefit from cultivating good brain health. Critical thinking is endangered. I am grateful that we, ID (Infectious Disease) docs, have brilliant approaches to critical thinking. I study the features of my brain and apply new learning skills to everyday life.
I commit to be compassionate to myself no matter the circumstance. If I do not sleep well, I do not expect my brain to be optimized. I give myself grace. My brain works best from within sanctuary settings. Click here for sanctuary biohacks.
I keep my mind wide open. No premature closures. I adapt thoughts according to constantly shifting data points and new information. I practice remaining agile.
I seek a beginner’s mind each day. Each time I review a patient’s case, it is with fresh eyes. This is how we crack the hardest cases. It helps us navigate unexpected, unwanted, unpredicted curveballs on both sides of hospital bed rails.

Your photography is breathtaking! I'll be back!
Thank you for your beautiful posts Nessa. I agree having time for truly being present with someone and listening is the key to understanding and healing. I love what you say about nature and connectivity. I dove deep into your substack and found the link about grocery stores in Finland making talking/connecting spaces and creating slow checkout lanes for people to have time to connect. I just love that. Thank you for sharing the good things. Love is a powerful change agent.
