Nessa- We are possible indeed. Butterscotch rock is forever. Soul charging is its role. A great piece!

Great essay and photos, Nessa. I was there 14 years ago, and the memory of the majestic redwoods in or on the ground is as vivid today as it was standing so small among them! What wonderful perspective.

The memory is etched into our souls. I was absolutely mesmerized and still am weeks later.

It is 3:30 in the morning and I just read this beautiful piece. I, too, have been to the Redwood Forest and reading your description and looking at your pictures created a shunt for me to a memory. I think my feelings were quite similar to yours. I was incredulous that people could stand here in the midst of that forest and think, wow, I need to cut down these trees so I can sell them to other people. I guess we all find different ways of feeding ourselves and our families, but this seemed a sacrilegious thought. This is somewhat like seeing Yosemite Valley for the first time and feeling that the Earth must have Holy Places. Thank you for writing this. Thank you for reminding me that hatred and anger come from fear and suffering. It helps create a bridge for me to feel compassion when faced with the negativity, paranoia, and greed mentality of these times. It is nice to find a cocoon to stretch out and feel peace and safety. Keep up your writing. It is a good thing.

Thank you for this beautiful heartfelt comment.

Agree! There must be a neurodegenerative impairment of sorts for humans to get to the point of destruction of the sacred. It must be a horrible place of suffering.

I don't think my reframing makes excuses for sick humans who conduct violent actions but it helps to know that the roots go way further than we can fathom. The water we swim in is in trouble.

Thank you for the kind words and the most constant support. You are such a good friend and allofather.
