Empire uses words to bind us into servitude. You being a resident alien places you in the UNITED STATES which is a corporation, ultimately controlled by the city of London and the Vatican. Since 1871 the UNITED STATES has been a corporation controlled by European bankers. My ancestors came here in 1620, before the corporate empire existed. I now declare myself a nonresident alien, a non us citizen. This puts me into common law, the law of the land, free of Washington DC. Corporations masquerading as lawful government is the way nearly every nation is now structured. The Roman Empire rules through the Vatican and they expect to control all of us. The empires alienate us from the earth and ourselves by herding us into invisible traps made of words.

Thanks for the update. "Hospicing Modernity...." a must read for those interested in the last part of the book's title ..."the Implications for Social Activism." What we can do is a lot more than worrying and saying how awful things are. I liken the desired behavior to guerilla warfare, doing battle from the inside, to challenge and change the structures that dominate and destroy rather than collaborate and create. Some might call it misplaced idealism. I called it my realism. Each to her/his own to deciide who to be and what to do. The only time we have is now, so let's make of that what we will

I too was an Alien here in the U.S. from the U.K. We have many similar experiences. The photo of you as a young child… I have one similar. The nerdy yet self sufficient girl out of necessity. The mother wound. Escaping to the U.S. for a better life with a military step father and young mother who wasn’t ready for a new life. The trouble of life then really begins. Fast forward to the privileged of getting into medical school after being a legal alien to “look at me now.” Like any of that mattered.

I have so much disappointment knowing that the medical system I joined like you is set up for failure. Your writings resonate so much Nessa. Thank you for sharing your life story and thank you for stirring up new thoughts for others through these writings of yours.

Lisa, thanks so much for sharing that this resonates and your shared experience. The "Look at me now's" are so interesting now in retrospect, aren't they? I go easy on myself for collecting them. I also love to learn so that played a role in my choices also. Now I just learn from them and stopped Look Me Now behavior STAT.

It is most unfortunate what happened in the health industry but parasitism works that way. It is rather irritating. Self-destruction was inevitable- a sort of auto amputation.

I try to get out of this way and celebrate and rejoice the possibility for new ways.

How I long for a real bookstore; one where you can relax into a comfy chair with endless coffee and explore book after book for hours. I had one once, but moved away. Now that it’s closed, I have the memories.

Those are the best memories! I just turn various nooks in my home into a library of my dreams with endless herbal tea. Inspired by ones I have visited.

Very thought filled. The Resident Alien realization is quite cute but significant as the thought sinks in. Strangers in a strange land; we are. Thank you for sharing these thoughts, perspectives and feelings.

So so good! Thanks for sharing. My favorite part - Systemic harm is like the water in the story above. We don’t even see that we swim in tar marinade. YES! Beautiful!

Although my parents both came from immigrants ( Sweden and Netherlands) like many of us not so close to your more recent experience-- being an introvert yet quiet seeker -- sometimes leader from birth (eldest ) book/nature/ integrative spirituality sort -- and more of my background draws me automatically to your compelling compassion for self and others!)
